Welcome to Berlin

Market and management

So Why Berlin?

Where you choose to go on exchange depends on the course itself, the timing of the course, the length of the course, your city of preference and your budget. Berlin in my case fit neatly into my schedule, Macquaire Uni's  July winter break perfectly matches Berlin's 3 weeks "Markets and Management in Europe" summer course.

Student life in Berlin for three weeks

It was AWESOME!!!! having to live there for three weeks, it was more than being a tourist, we get a chance to see locals live their daily lives, become a pro with the fabulous Berlin public transport system, live on their famous curry wurst,  and learn their history and culture.

Trip Highlights

Excellent Transport - efficiency is what the Berliners pride themself for, and yes their transport system is more than efficient, the whole city is connected with buses, undergrounds (a.k.a U-Bahn), trains (S-Bahn), trams and their long distant train (Deutsch Bahn), not only efficient but also very convenient. For example the accommodation in which I stayed at, was organised by the Berlin University at a student hotel where most of the students of the summer course stayed, this hotel was 30min by public transport away from Berlin School of Economics, the bus stop locate right in front of the hotel, where the M29 bus runs 24hours away, 7days a week, every 10minutes and it runs straight to the city centre - We couldn't ask for more compare to Sydney's transport.

Great night life - Berlin summer means the sun doesn't set until 11pm !!! giving us more time to explore the famous sites of Berlin and enough time to get ready for the night life, with many great restaurants and clubs open until morning, and when you have a group of great friends  together, anywhere you go there'll be many memorable moments.

Friendly locals - It was probably well known that the Germans like to be left alone, and may be a little cold and unfriendly, especially when it comes to tourist. So having heard that, the idea of being lost and not being able to speak enough Deutsche was rather scary before arriving in Berlin, but like people always say...... don't believe everything you hear. True the Berliners all looked very scary and unapproachable, but once we got passed the stereotype we discovered they are the most friendly and genuinely very nice people. And almost everyone being able to speak English was definitely a bonus!

Meeting new friends - I believe meeting new friends was the most memorable, and best part of my trip to Berlin, it was as if we had formed a very large Berlin family during our time there. The friends I met in this course is the reason why Berlin has become a life time memory for me, words can not express the friendship we have formed.
